HAD A GOOD TIME in CHRISTCHURCH
I participated in this homestay program because I want to learn foreign culture and talk with foreigner. At first I was worried about my poor English. Can I hear? Can I speak? Can I have a communication?
When I arrived at New Zealand, I felt very cold. Because NZ is in Southern Hemisphere, NZ and Japan’s seasons are opposite. It’s winter now! So I thought I will catch a cold.
My heart was beating so fast when first meeting with host family. There are four people and one dog in my host family. I could talk with them about their puppy because I also love puppy. He is so adorable. I was very happy when I gave Japanese gift to them. I presented Ukiyoe T-shirt and Japanese fan to father, furoshiki and Japanese fan to mother, Ukiyoe T-shirt and notebook to my buddy Milo and Doraemon’s T-shirt and Japanese top ‘Koma’ to brother Helm. I enjoyed cooking dinner with my buddy and I loved many original tastes. My host family father took me to fishing, shopping and watching hockey weekday.
My buddy and their family talked so slowly to me that I can catch them. Father and mother treated me like their real son. I thank them very much.
There were many students who go to school by kick scooter and skate board. I was amazed at a difference of culture. I was surprised at parking for kick scooter and skate board at their school too. They almost used PC not a black board in lectures. And lecture was not only study but also playing drama, skill of PC, writing music with PC.I had a break time after second lecture. I talked with my classmates and eating cookies.
I took part in badminton game with another junior high school student after school. I got many friends at school. I enjoyed school life in Christchurch.
NZ is a multiracial nation, so I was not a stranger there. My host mother is from Denmark and my host father is Maori. I sang Maori songs with Milo at his club.
I had a lot of precious experiences at Christchurch and I learned many things during 17 days.
I will never forget my stay.Ｉ’m glad I had such a nice host family, and felt like home. Time went by like a dream and flew by! Thank you very much for this program!
クライストチャーチホームステイを終えて
僕は海外の文化を学びたい、海外の人と英語でもっと話せるようになりたい気持ちで今回、このホームステイに参加しました。
ニュージーランドに向かう飛行機の中で英語がちゃんと伝わるか、ちゃんと聞きとれるかという不安の気持ちでいっぱいでした。
ニュージーランドに到着すると、季節が冬なのでとても寒く体調を崩しそうでした。ニュージーランドは南半球にあるため、日本と季節が逆で、今は冬でした。
ホストファミリーは４人家族と一匹の犬を飼っていて、初めて会った時は、心臓の音が聞こえるくらい緊張しました。しかし、ホストファミリーの家に着くとかわいい犬がいて僕も犬が大好きだったので会話のきっかけが出来ました。
日本から持ってきたお土産を渡すととても喜んでくれてうれしかったです。お父さんには浮世絵のTシャツと扇子、お母さんには風呂敷と扇子、バディには浮世絵のTシャツと浮世絵のノート、そして弟にはドラえもんのTシャツと独楽を贈りました。
料理は不安でしたが、いろいろなケチャップの味を試したりして自分の好みの味を伝えたのでおいしかったです。
また、お父さんには釣りや買い物やホッケーの試合観戦などに連れて行ってもらいました。
心配していた英語の日常会話は思っていたより聞き取れてほっとしました。お父さんとお母さんは、実の息子のように可愛がって頂きました。バディとお父さんは聞き取りやすいようにゆっくり話し掛けてくれて、その心使いに感謝しています。
現地の学校では、キックスケーターやスケートボードで登校している人もいて文化の違いを感じました。学校にはキックスケーターやスケートボード用の駐輪場もありびっくりしました。学校の授業は、パソコンを使っていてほとんど黒板は使いませんでした。
また、勉強だけでなく演劇やパソコンの使い方を学んだり、パソコンを使って自分で作曲する授業もありました。家での宿題もすべてパソコンとタブレットで勉強していました。
二時間目が終わるとスナックを食べてもよい時間になり僕もクラスの皆とお菓子を食べました。放課後には、別の学校の生徒といっしょにバドミントンの試合をしました。僕は学校でたくさんの友達ができました。クライストチャーチの学校は本当に魅力的でした。
ニュージーランドは他民族の国なので、街中を日本人の僕が歩いていても全く違和感がありませんでした。ホストファミリーの母はデンマーク出身、父は祖先がマオリの方でした。バディのマイロがマオリの歌を習いに行くのに僕もついて行き、一緒にマオリの歌を歌いました。
それぞれの考え方，価値感を大事にした大勢の人が暮らしているクライストチャーチでの十七日間のホームステイで言葉で表せない何かを得ることが出来ました。
