Memories in Kansas City
My first visit to the United States was when I went to the West Coast University (then called Hayward) as an exchange student when I was a university student. Since then, more than 18 years have passed, and I have a chance to return to the United States of America.
I am originally interested in international exchange, I had a homestay experience as a member of Christchurch City as part of sister city exchange in Kurashiki City when I was in junior high school. This is my first experience and everything I see, what I see and what they speak is completely different from Japan, and I still have memories of being shocked by culture. I had always wanted to return and give back as a leader, and this time I was able to make my dream come true.
The United States has been nostalgic for the first time in 18 years, and for the first time in the local experience through homestay and group action, it has left me with memories of my life again. I had a lot of experiences that I couldn't express in a word, but sometimes I felt once again that it was completely different from Japan in terms of daily food culture and traffic conditions. I was interested in farm management using the large land, and the difference in the power of high school education.( particularly in music and physical education) It is memorable that the baseball stadium functions as a national recreational facility rather than a place for the sports.
Although I was worried about living in a foreign country for a long time by leading seven high school students, thanks to the great daily support of the host family and Kurashiki Friendship Delegation Committee. I managed to get through and I am grateful to all those who cooperated. I am convinced that it was also an unchanging memory for the students.
At the farewell party, I declared and promised that the exchange between Kurashiki City and Kansas City would continue forever. In the future, I would like to actively participate in hosting families for the members coming from Kansas City to Kurashiki. I hope that it will help the exchange between sister cities continue in the next year and beyond.
カンザスシティ市での思い出

私の初めてのアメリカへの訪問は、大学生時代に西海岸の大学（当時のヘイワード校）へ交換留学で行った時でした。以降、１８年以上の時が過ぎ、アメリカ本土へ再び足を運ぶチャンスが訪れました。
もともと海外交流に興味があった私は、中学生時代に倉敷市の姉妹都市交流の一環で、クライストチャーチ市に団員としてホームステイした経験があります。この時は自分自身初めての海外経験で、食べるもの見るもの話すものすべてが日本と全く異なっており、カルチャーショックを受けた思い出が今でも残っております。いつか引率者として再訪し、恩返しをしたいという気持ちはずっと抱いていましたが、この度カンザスシティ市へ引率者としての訪問という形で夢を実現させることができました。
１８年ぶりのアメリカは懐かしくもあり、ホームステイや団体行動を通じて現地で初めて経験することもあり、私に二度目の生涯の思い出を残してくれることになりました。
現地ではとても一言で言い表せないほどのたくさんの体験を重ねましたが、日々の食文化や交通事情など、日本と完全に異なっているなと再度痛感させられることもあれば、アメリカならではの広大な土地を利用しての農場経営の実態を垣間見たり、高校教育の（特に音楽や体育といった日本でいう９科目に含まれるもの）力の入れ具合の差を実感したり、野球場が単にスポーツの場ではなく国民的な娯楽施設として機能している点などが特に心に残っています。
自分の子どもと間違われてもおかしくないぐらいの年齢の高校生７名を引率して、長期間異国の地で生活をするのは当初多大な不安もありましたが、中部日米協会の方々やホストファミリーの多大なる日常的なサポートのおかげでなんとか乗り切ることができ、協力いただいたすべての方への感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。団員達にとっても、掛け替えのない思い出となったことと確信します。
フェアウェルパーティーの時、倉敷市とカンザスシティ市の交流は、永久に続けると私は引率者として宣言し、約束をしました。今後は、カンザスシティ市から倉敷市へ訪れる団員たちのために、ホストファミリーとしての受け入れにも、積極的に参加したいと考えています。次年度以降も、姉妹都市同士の交流が続いていくことの一助になれたらと思います。
