I was worried about staying away from my family more than two weeks. Because I have never separated from them for a such a long time. But I felt more confident as I studied about Kurashiki, New Zealand and English.
I felt great when I used my English at the airport. And she understood what I said.
What I felt the most in this trip was the difference of the weather. It was really cold. Even I knew the weather was opposite.
When I left Japan, it was very hot. That made me feel colder. It was surprising to see the people of short sleeves and shorts in this cold weather.
The prices are a little more expensive than Japan. The water of pet bottle costs $4 in NZ, which cost only \100 in Japan.
Also the software of video games costs $100 in NZ, which cost only \6000 in Japan. I was surprised to see the same software which sold in Japan, and more expensive than Japan. It might cost for transport.
There are some things similar to Japan.
Not so many trash are on the road. There are many Japanese cars. The nature was beautiful, even just neighborhood streets. The view was splendid. People in New Zealand are very kind and friendly.
When I asked a question, they answered for me. My buddy stayed with me and taught me many things. I had experienced classes in NZ. They were using computer a lot. It was normal public high school, but it was a lot larger than our school. It took so long to move class to class.
I have also experienced the Maori culture cutting wool of sheep, experience the Antarctic, and the real English. It was so much fun.
I also get along with Japanese mate of this trip.
After the trip I want to challenge many things. When my buddy comes to Kurashiki, I want to do my best to enjoy with him.
研修の感想
連島中学校2年 辻井郁実
僕は、今回クライストチャーチへの交換留学に行くまで、家族と離れて生活したことがなかったので、２週間以上も外国で生活することができるのか不安でした。しかし、事前研修であらかじめ英語や倉敷市の勉強をすることで、少しずつ不安は減りました。実際に空港で英語が通じたときは、少し自信がつきました。
交換留学に行って思ったのは、まず気候の違いです。とても寒かったです。事前研修で季節が逆だと知っていましたが、出国時の日本は真夏だったので余計に寒く感じました。しかし現地では半袖半ズボンの人もいて、驚きました。
また、物価がやや高かったです。日本では100円ほどの500mlのペットボトルの水が、４ドル（約320円）でした。他にも、日本では6000円ぐらいのＴＶゲームのソフトが、100ドル（約8000円）でした。外国なのに日本と同じゲームを売っていることや、その値段の高さに驚きました。日本から遠いので、輸送費等がかかるから高いのかなと思いました。
似ているところもありました。ゴミが道端に落ちていることはなく、日本車が多かったです。自然も多く、近所の山からの景色は映画のように美しかったです。また、親切で気さくな人が多かったです。話しかけたらちゃんと返してくれました。バディもずっとそばにいてくれて、色々教えてくれました。授業も体験しましたが、授業中にパソコンを使う機会が多かったです。普通の公立校でしたが、校内は僕の学校よりも広く、移動が意外と大変でした。
今回行ってみて、日本ではなかなか体験できないマオリ文化や羊の毛刈り、南極を体験したり、本場の英語を生で感じることができたりして、とても楽しかったです。普段会うことがない他の中学校の人と、交換留学の間に徐々に仲良くなって、帰る頃には友達になれたのも良かったです。日本に帰ってからも今回の研修で学んだことや感じたことを、活用して色々なことにチャレンジしていきたいと思いました。また、今度はバディが倉敷に来るので、僕がたくさん案内して倉敷のことを好きになってもらえたらいいなと思います。
