「Kansas City」
I love MLB, so watching a Kansas City Royals’ baseball game was one of my best memories in Kansas City. It was a valuable experience for me.
My host family arranged the ticket for a game Zach Greinke would be pitching, because I had told them I wanted to see him. They even prepared a backyard tour of the ballpark. I will never forget standing on the ground at Kauffman Stadium on the tour. At the Backyard Museum, I saw George Brett’s ball and bat which he used in his 3,000th hit, and Zack Greinke’s uniform. 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' at the 7th inning was especially great. The fans of the other team also sang in unison. I will never forget the atmosphere and the sense of unity in the stadium. I saw Greinke pitching and it was a good memory of my life too.
During group activities, I went to watch the Kansas City Monarchs of the independent league. When I arrived at the stadium and went to the batting cage, I was very surprised to see O'Grady, who was a member of the Saitama Seibu Lions until last year. My friend and I talked to him and took photos with him. I was very happy and it was a valuable experience. I thought that independent leagues in the United States are great because the relationships between fans and players are very close. I also had a good opportunity to catch foul balls.
I visited the WW1 Museum, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Nelson Art Museum, and Truman Library. I played mini golf, went boating, sailing, and wentshopping in Kansas City. The Nelson Museum of Art was very interesting. For example, a painting by Korin Ogata is false but it is on exhibit there. The other collections are excellent.
I was shocked at Japanese food in America. I ate sushi, but it was completely different from Japanese sushi.
Living in a different culture allowed me to think a lot about Japan again and broaden my horizons. I also had specific goals for my future, and was able to work hard to achieve them.
I had a great summer vacation in the USA. I would definitely like to visit Kansas City someday again to realize my dreams for the future.

カンザスシティでの経験を通して
今年の夏、カンザスシティで経験したことは全て忘れられない思い出になりました。
面接が終わった後は、あまりのできの悪さに「あぁ、ダメだ…アメリカには行けないな」と思っていました。しかし、数日後、自宅に届いた封筒の中には「合格」の二文字が！！まさか、自分が選ばれるとは思ってもいなかったので、本当にうれしかったです。 一方で、英語もほとんど喋れないのに大丈夫なのかと不安にもなりました。
でも、MLBが大好きなぼくは、あこがれのアメリカに行く日まで、毎日ワクワクしていました。
グループ行動のときには、独立リーグのカンザスシティ・モナークスの観戦に行きました。 球場に着きバッティング練習場に行くと、なんと昨年まで埼玉西武ライオンズに所属していたオグレディがバッティング練習をしていてとても驚きました。友人と2人で話しかけると、ツーショット写真を撮ってくれました。とてもうれしく、また貴重な経験になりました。 アメリカの独立リーグは、ファンと選手の関係性が近くてとても良いなと思いました。また、ファールボールをキャッチできたのも良い思い出です。
ホームステイでも、日本ではできないとてもたくさんの貴重な経験ができました。
特に、MLBカンザスシティロイヤルズを観戦した1日は忘れられない日になりました。
まず、ホストマザーが、ぼくが観たいと言っていたザック・グレインキーの登板日に観戦日を合わせてくれました。さらにサプライズで球場ツアーまで用意してくれていました。そのとき、カウフマン・スタジアムのグラウンドに立てたことは忘れられない思い出です。
また、初めてのMLB観戦は非常に新鮮なものでした。特に7回の’Take Me Out to the Ball Game’ は素晴らしかったです。 敵チームのファンも一体になっての大合唱。あのスタジアムの空気、一体感は一生忘れられないと思います。
他にも、WW1ミュージアム、ニグロリーグベースボールミュージアム、ネルソン美術館、トルーマンライブラリー、ミニゴルフ、ボート遊び、セーリング、ショッピングなど忘れられない経験がたくさんできました。
そして、カンザスシティの人はとても良い人たちばかりでした。 特に、ホストファミリーとMr. Jimにはとてもお世話になりました。 本当に感謝しています。
また、日本とは違った文化の中で生活することで、改めて日本について考えたり、自分の視野を広げたりすることができました。そして、自分の将来についても具体的な目標ができ、その実現に向けて努力していこうと思うことができました。
今までのぼくの夢がかない、将来の夢が目標に変わったカンザスシティをいつの日か必ず再訪したいと思います。
