最高の夏休み

この夏、私は一生忘れられない出来事を経験しました。 出発前は、「ホストファミリーとちゃんと会話できるのだろうか」という不安が胸いっぱいに広がっていました。しかし、その心配はすぐに吹き飛び、過ごした17日間は、まるで夢のように楽しく、充実した日々となりました。 私は二つのホストファミリーの家に滞在しました。どちらの家族も本当に温かく、私を家族の一員のように迎えてくれました。たくさんの場所に連れて行ってくれましたが、その中でも特に心に残っているのは二つの体験です。

　一つ目は、湖で過ごした日です。ホストファミリーはボートを持っていて、浮き輪をつけたボートを全速力で走らせるウォータースポーツを体験させてくれました。風を切る音や水しぶきの冷たさが心地よく、スピードに合わせて胸が高鳴りました。 そのあと、湖で泳ぎながらパーティーをしました。初めて会った別のボートの人たちに声をかけられ、気づけば四隻のボートで一緒に盛り上がっていました。日本では考えられない光景に、驚きと感動がこみ上げました。初対面にもかかわらず、たくさん話しかけてくれ、日本のことを聞いてくれたり、共通の話題で笑い合ったり、まるで昔からの友達と話しているようで、とても温かく心地よい時間でした。みんなで歌い、お菓子を食べ、大人たちはお酒を楽しみ、本当に幸せなひとときでした。

　二つ目は、ホストファミリーが出演するミュージカルを観たことです。子どもたちだけが演じる舞台で、正直あまり期待はしていませんでした。しかし幕が上がった瞬間、その世界に引き込まれ、瞬きするのも忘れるほどでした。出演者一人ひとりが生き生きと役になりきり、舞台全体が輝いて見えました。その姿からは、アメリカの文化の自由さと温かさが伝わってきました。私は「もしアメリカに住むなら、この舞台に立ってみたい」と心から思いました。

今回の旅を通して、私は人の温かさに何度も救われました。そして、自分の中の世界が何百倍にも広がったことを強く実感しています。この経験は、将来国際的な仕事に就きたいという新たな夢を私に与えてくれました。私を本当の家族のように受け入れてくれたホストファミリー、一生仲良くしたい大好きなチームのみんなやリーダー、そして私を送り出してくれた家族に、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。さらに、この訪問団を支えてくださった国際課や日米協会の方々にも、心からお礼を伝えたいです。 このかけがえのない経験を胸に、これからも前を向いて歩んでいこうと思います。

The best summer vacation

This summer was one I’ll never forget. At first, I was nervous—would I even be able to talk with my host families? But those worries disappeared right away, and the 17 days I spent there turned out to be full of fun and amazing memories. I actually stayed with two different host families, and both were incredibly kind. They took me to so many places, but two experiences really stood out.

The first was at the lake. My host family had a boat, and we did this super fun water sport where you ride an inner tube tied to the boat and speed across the water. We also had a swimming party, and during it I met someone from another boat for the first time. Before I knew it, we were having a four-boat party together! In Japan, that would never happen, so I was really surprised. Even though we had just met, they talked to me like we were old friends　asking about Japan, finding things we had in common, and just laughing together. The atmosphere was so friendly and comfortable. We sang songs, ate snacks, and the adults enjoyed drinks. It was the kind of fun you never want to end.

The second was watching a musical my host family was in. It was performed entirely by kids, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. But as soon as it started, I was completely drawn in. Everyone was having so much fun, totally becoming their characters, and the whole performance felt alive. It really showed me the freedom and warmth of American culture. I even thought, “If I lived in America, I’d love to be in a musical like this.”

Through this trip, I realized just how warm and welcoming people can be, and I feel like my world has expanded hundreds of times over. It also made me want to have a career where I can work internationally. I’m so thankful to my host families for welcoming me like a real family, to my amazing teammates and leaders, and to my family for letting me go. And of course, thank you to everyone in the International Division and the Japan-America Society for making this possible. I’ll do my best to make the most of this experience in the future.
