I stayed in Christchurch, New Zealand for 17 days as a member of the Kurashiki Sister City Experience Group. I was able to learn a lot of things through this valuable experience. there.
It was my first time to go to a foreign country. So, I was really excited, but I was very anxious just before departure. Once the Plane had taken off, it took 24 hours to land in New Zealand with returning to japan. It was very cold in the middle of winter even though it was July.
When I first met my host family, I was so nervous that I could only greet them, but they were all so kind to me that I had been able to talk to them on my own since I arrived home. I am not good at English, so at first I used the translation function on my smartphone to communicate, but as I gradually got used to life there, I was able to have simple conversations with them in English.
I especially felt myself growing up when my host mother made me lunch with contained dried fruit, She I do not like, so I told her in my own words, "I can't eat it because I don't like it. The mother said, It's just a little challenge. I'm sorry." I was pleased with myself for being able to express my honest feelings in English.
In New Zealand, we were taken to many places for sightseeing. One day we went to the ropeway and climbed very high. The ropeway was made of glass, so we could enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. The view of New Zealand was very beautiful. On another day, We went to the Antarctic Center and got a ride on a vehicle that is actually used in Antarctica. I was very excited to enjoy riding on roads that you cannot drive on , such as on tires or on roads with gaps in them.
I would like to thank my host family and many others for their support that made this experience possible. Thank you very much.
I would like to make use of this valuable experience in the future. Also, in September, an exchange student will come to Kurashiki from Christchurch. I would like to do my best to support you so that you can spend wonderful days in Japan.
ニュージーランドでの素敵な日々
僕は、倉敷市の姉妹都市体験団でニュージーランドのクライストチャーチ州にホームステイさせていただきました。そこでの貴重な体験を通じて、いろんなことを学ぶことができました。
初めての海外なのでとても楽しみにしていましたが、出発直前はとても不安な気持ちでした。しかし、一度飛び立った飛行機は日本に戻ることもなく、約２４時間掛けてニュージーランドに到着しました。７月なのに季節は真冬でとても寒さかったです。
初めてホストファミリーに会ったときは、とても緊張していたため、挨拶しかできませんでしたが、みんなとても優しく接してくれたので、家についてからは、自分から話しかけることもできるようになっていました。僕は英語が得意ではないため、最初がスマホの翻訳機能を使ってコミュニケーションをとっていましたが、徐々に生活に慣れるにつれて、簡単な会話ぐらいであれば英語で会話することができるようになっていました。
特に自分でも成長を感じたのは、ホストファミリーのお母さんがお弁当を作ってくれた時に、苦手なドライフルーツが入っていたので「苦手なので食べれません」と自分の言葉で伝えました。お母さんは「ちょっとチャレンジしてみただけなの。ごめんね」と言ってくれました。英語で正直な気持ちが伝えることができたことに、自分でもうれしくなりました。
ニュージーランドでは、色々なところに観光に連れて行ってもらいました。ある日はロープウェイに乗り、とても高いところまで登りました。ガラス張りなので、３６０度見渡せる大パノラマの絶景を楽しむことができました。ニュージーランドの景色はとてもきれいでした。またある日は、南極センターに行き、実際に南極で使われている乗り物に乗って、タイヤの上や隙間が空いた道など車で通ることのできない道を走ることができて、とても興奮しました。
このような体験をすることができたのは、ホストファミリーをはじめ、たくさん方のサポートのおかげです。本当にありがとうございました。
