クライストチャーチ市訪問青少年生活体験団の引率を通して感じたこと

　令和7年7月23日から8月8日までの17日間、12名の中学生団員とともに姉妹都市クライストチャーチ市を訪問しました。今回の訪問で、青少年生活体験団のクライストチャーチ市派遣事業は30回目を迎え、その記念すべき年に団員のリーダーとして素晴らしい体験をさせていただきました。

私自身にとって今回が初めての海外訪問であり、リーダーの責任感から、出発日までの準備期間は誰よりも緊張していたと思います。何度も旅程や飛行機の乗り継ぎについて資料を確認するほど、不安でいっぱいでした。しかし現地の空港に到着すると、ホストファミリーや姉妹都市委員会の方々が温かく出迎えてくださったおかげで、感じていた緊張や不安は自然と消えていきました。

中学生の団員たちも、はじめは緊張している様子でしたが、2週間の滞在中に現地の方々と積極的にコミュニケーションを取りながら、異文化について意欲的に学ぶ姿や、12名のメンバー全員で一致団結して行動する姿が多く見られました。現地では、多くの方々に「今年の団員は、何でそんなに仲が良いの？」と疑問を投げかけられ、その都度「リーダーが良いからさ。」と返答する冗談交じりの会話もできました。リーダーとして、大変誇らしかったです。団員たちの頑張りや成長を近くで見ることができたことも、引率することの良さだと感じました。

滞在中は、クライストチャーチの町並みや建築物、自然、食べ物など、日本とは異なる風景や文化に触れることで、大きな感動を覚え、忘れられない特別な経験になりました。特に、町の随所に緑が生い茂るクライストチャーチの美しい風景と、口いっぱいに頬張った大きなハンバーガーの美味しさは忘れません。言葉の壁があり、不慣れな環境の中で、本事業を成功させたという達成感は何より大きな自信となりました。今まさに、人生初めての海外訪問が姉妹都市のクライストチャーチ市で良かったと心から感じております。

この経験を活かし、オールブラックスのように、これからも何事にも果敢にトライしていこうと思います。このような貴重な機会をいただけたのも、これまで倉敷市・クライストチャーチ市の姉妹都市交流を支えてくださった多くの方々の取り組みによるものだと考えております。倉敷市国際交流協会の皆様をはじめとして、国際課の皆様、中学生団員とそのご家族、ホストファミリーの皆様に深く感謝申し上げます。両市の良好な関係が末永く続くよう、今後も引き続き、国際交流に尽力していきたいと思います。

Reflections from leading the youth life experience group visiting Christchurch City

From July 23 to August 8 of the 7th year of the Reiwa era, I visited Christchurch City with 12 junior high school students for a period of 17 days. This visit marks the 30th time of the youth life experience group dispatch project to Christchurch City. I was able to have a wonderful experience as the leader of this group in this commemorative year.

This was my first overseas visit. I think I was more nervous than anyone else until the day of departure because of my sense of responsibility as a leader. I was so filled with anxiety that I repeatedly checked the materials regarding the schedule and connecting flights. However, when I arrived at Christchurch International Airport, the warm welcome from the host families and the sister city committee naturally dispelled the tension and anxiety I had been feeling. 

The junior high school members also looked nervous at first, but during their two-week stay, they actively communicated with locals and eagerly learned about different cultures. There were many instances of all 12 members uniting and acting together. In New Zealand, many people asked me, 'Why are the members this year so close?' and each time I jokingly replied, 'It's because the leader is doing a great job.' I felt very proud to be the leader. I felt it was good to take on the role of leader because I was able to witness the efforts and growth of the members up close.

During my stay, I was deeply moved by the landscapes and culture that were different from Japan, such as the streets and architecture of Christchurch, nature, and food, making it an unforgettable and special experience. I won't forget the beautiful scenery of Christchurch where greenery flourishes everywhere in the city and the deliciousness of the large hamburger stuffed in my mouth. In an unfamiliar environment, succeeding in this project has become a tremendous source of confidence for me. Right now, I truly feel that it was wonderful for my first overseas visit to be in the sister city of Christchurch.
