私の初海外・初ホームステイ

人生初海外。初ホームステイ。小さいときから海外に行くことに憧れていたので面接に受かったときは本当に嬉しかったです。ですが、正直ホームステイが一番不安でした。ホストファミリーのみんなに迷惑をかけてしまわないか。でもその不安はホストファミリーの温かさに触れて、すぐに消えていきました。 ホストファミリーはお父さん、お母さん、バディ、弟、そして1匹の犬の5人家族でした。家に着いたとき、みんなが「ウェルカム！」と笑顔で迎えてくれて、一気に緊張がほぐれました。

毎日の生活は日本とは全然違いました。晩ごはんの時間は家族全員で集まって食べるけれど、あまり話はせずに早く食べ終わってリビングで一緒にその日あった出来　事を話し合ったり、テレビを見たりします。私が英語でうまく話せないときも、みんなうなずきながら聞いてくれて、ジェスチャーを交えながら一生懸命コミュニケーションをとってくれました。バディとはよく一緒にベッドに座ってお互いが好きなK-POPアイドルについておしゃべりをしました。また、私が折り紙を教えると、最初は難しそうにしていましたが、だんだん慣れてきて、少しずつ鶴を折れるようになりました。

週末には、ホストファミリーがいろいろな場所に連れて行ってくれました。カイコウラという美しい港町に連れて行ってくれたり、海に日の出を見に行ったりしました。学校で仲良くなった、バディの親友とのお泊まり会やショッピングもたくさんさせてくれてとても嬉しかったです。 たった2週間という短い期間でしたが、ホストファミリーとの生活は本当に充実した時間でした。言葉や文化の違いに戸惑うこともありましたが、それ以上に相手を思いやる気持ちや家族の温かさを感じることができました。

このホームステイを通して私はたくさんのことを学びました。英語はもちろん、新しい環境に飛び込むことの勇気や、自分の意思を伝えることの大切さを知りました。 日本に帰ってきた今、ホストファミリーのことがとても恋しいです。そして、バディが日本に来たときには優しく向かい入れてあげたいです。このホームステイは一生忘れることのない宝物です。　

My first time abroad and first homestay　

It was my first time abroad. Homestay. I had always dreamed of going abroad since I was little, so I was really happy when I passed the interview. But honestly, I was most worried that I would cause trouble for my host family. But those worries quickly disappeared when I experienced the warmth of my most family.

My host family consisted of five people: father, mother, Buddy, younger brother, and a dog. When I arrived at their house, everyone greeted me with a smile and said, “Welcome!”, which immediately eased my tension. 

Daily life was completely different from Japan. At dinner time, the whole family would gather together to eat, but we didn’t talk much and finished eating quickly, then we would go to the living room and talk about what happened that day or watch TV. Even when I couldn’t speak English well, everyone would nod and listen, and try their best to communicate with me using gestures. Buddy and I would often I sit on the bed together and chat about our favorite K-POP idols. Also, when I taught her origami, she seemed to find it difficult at first, but she gradually got used to it and was able to fold cranes little by little.

On the weekend, my host family took me to various places. They took me to a happy that they also let me have sleepovers with my buddy’s vest friend, who I became close with at school, and go shopping a lot. 

Although it was only a short two weeks, living with my host family was a truly fulfilling time. I sometimes confused by the language and cultural differences, but more than that, I was able to feel the consideration for others and the warmth of the family. I learned a lot through this homestay. Not only English, but also the courage to jump into a new environment and the importance of expressing one’s intentions. 

Now that I’m back to in Japan, I miss my host family very much, I want to be able to welcome my buddy warmly when she comes to Japan. This homestay is a treasure I will never forget.
